Adventure Quest is considered a "Lunch Time" game. You can log in and out with no penalties. I do have a small house, and my Guardians name is Jennofeve. To become a Guardian it takes a one time small fee. Well worth it for the free HP and MP potions and the extra help from the summoned Dragon.
